30th Annual Scientific Session 2014
The Council

Message from the President

It is with great pleasure that I welcome all of you to the 29th Annual Scientific Sessions of the College of Anaesthesiologists of Sri Lanka.

The theme of this year’s Scientific Sessions is “Anaesthesia and Critical Care- “The way forward in patient care”. This signifies the continued commitment of the College in promoting the highest standards in the provision of patient care and safety. We have strived present a programme that is current, diverse and appropriate for everyone involved in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine. There will be a total of 12 pre and post congress workshops, seminars and tutorials for doctors, nurses and supporting staff, starting from the 18th of January 2013. The Inaugural Ceremony will be held on the 1st of February followed by the main Sessions starting on the 2nd of February.

To contribute towards the success of this event, we have a galaxy of distinguished local as well as overseas speakers coming from India, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany, France, the USA and Australia. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of them.

We have the honour and the privilege of having Dr J-P van Besouw, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, UK as our chief guest this year. His presence at the Annual Sessions will signify and strengthen the bond between the two Colleges that have been in existence for many years. We are also very fortunate to have Professor J-L Vincent, President of the Belgian Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Secretary General of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine, as our guest of honour who is a world renowned expert in the field of Critical Care.

I wish to thank the council, the scientific secretary, and all those who have collectively contributed towards organizing this event. A final thank you to the sponsors without whose support, we would not have been able to host such a great Congress.

I wish the 29th Annual Scientific Sessions every success and hope this will be a platform for you to share new knowledge and build new friendships!
