Nepal earthquake : Volunteers for Resilience of Surgical Services 4th May 2015

Dear GIEESC Members,

We appreciate the overwhelming response of some of our GIEESC members  offering their services in the post-earthquake situation in Nepal.To respond to your individual emails sent to us ,we plan to  forward your names to our technical teams leading the Emergency Response Program, towards resilience of surgical services in this time of need.

Applications Now Open – Regional Anaesthesia Fellowships, Ganga, India

Dear Colleagues,

 Please note applications are now open for up to four Regional Anaesthesia Fellowships at Ganga Medical Centre & Hospital, Coimbatore, India.

 Two of the Fellowships will start on 1st January 2016 and two more will start on the 1st July 2016.  The duration of training will be 6 months and this is an excellent opportunity for young anaesthesiologists to improve their skills in a busy institution with 20 operating theatres.

 Ganga Hospital’s Department of Anaesthesiology specialises in practising and teaching Regional Anaesthesia.  The department is equipped with peripheral nerve stimulators and six dedicated ultrasound machines for administering regional blocks.  The trainees will have an orientation month followed by five months of clinical responsibility.

 Applications Now Open: 2016 WFSA Ganga Hospital Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship

Applications are invited for four fellowship training positions at Ganga Medical Centre & Hospital, Coimbatore, India.

The duration of training is 6 months.  Two fellowships will start on the 1 January 2016 and two will start on the 1 July 2016.

Ganga Hospital (www.gangahospital.com) is a 475-bedded tertiary care referral centre for orthopaedic surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, spine and facio-maxillary surgery. It is a busy institution with 20 operating theatres.

The Department of Anaesthesiology specialises in practising and teaching Regional Anaesthesia. The department is equipped with peripheral nerve stimulators and six dedicated ultrasound machines for administering regional blocks. The trainees will have an orientation month followed by five months of clinical responsibility.

The fellowships are intended for anaesthesiologists working in low resource settings in Asia or Africa who wish to develop knowledge and skills in the field of regional anaesthesia and analgesia.

 Applicants should fit the following criteria: 

•          Must be supported in their application by their own national anaesthesiology society

•          Must be supported in their application by the chief / head of their home department

•          Must be returning to their home country to a recognized post

•          Should preferably be working in a teaching hospital

•          Preference will be given to younger anaesthesiologists working in Asia or Africa

Fellows will receive a stipend from Ganga Hospital to cover accommodation and living expenses.

The WFSA will provide funding to cover the cost of return travel from the fellow’s home country to Coimbatore, India.

The successful applicants will be required to register with the Medical Council of India and obtain medical insurance covering the duration of the fellowship.

Pain Management Fellowship at Kamineni Hospital, Kingkoti, Hyderabad, Telangana, India

Applications are invited for one fellowship training position at Kamineni Hospital, Kingkoti, Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

The fellowship will start on 1 July 2015 and the duration of training is 6 months. Fellows will be required to register with the Medical Council of India.

Kamineni Hospitals (www.kaminenihospitals.com) is a chain of hospitals, medical colleges and host of other medical educational institutions.  The Kamineni hospital, Kingkoti is a tertiary care referral centre for various specialties and super specialties. The Kamineni Pain Management Centre (kpmcindia.com), which is part of Kingkoti unit, is one of the unique centres in the country where professionals from across the globe visit to get trained to become good pain physicians. The centre has become torchbearer of academic expertise in the country by formulating guidelines for various training programme on par with international standards.  KPMC is known for regular workshops in the region on cadavers, manikins and  on various animal models.

KPMC specialises not only in patient care but also in practising and teaching both acute and chronic pain management.  The hospital is equipped with peripheral nerve stimulators, ultrasound machines, fluoroscopy, radiofrequency machine, epiduroscope, CT, MRI & others for performing various interventions. The trainees will have an orientation month followed by five months of clinical responsibility.

The fellowship is intended for anaesthesiologists working in low resource settings in Asia or Africa who wish to develop knowledge and skills in the field of pain management.

Applications Open for WFSA-Baxter Scholarships: 11th Congress of SAARC-AA

Applications Open for WFSA-Baxter Scholarships: 11th Congress of SAARC-AA – Kathmandu, Nepal, 26-28 February 2015

Baxter Healthcare Ltd is generously providing sponsorship for a number of young anaesthesiologists from less affluent countries to attend the 11th Congress of SAARC-AA. The aim of the scholarship programme is to identify and develop future leaders in anaesthesiology. WFSA-Baxter Scholars will acquire new knowledge and gain many contacts and friends during the SAARC-AA Congress.

Scholarship criteria:

• The applicant must be aged less than 40 years.

• The applicant should be working full time in an Asian country.

• This application is accompanied by a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s National Anaesthesiology Society.

• The applicant must be able to present a poster during the conference.

• Preference will be given to applicants who have completed training within 10 years and are working in teaching hospitals.

How to Apply:

• Complete the application form and submit, along with a letter of support from your National Society, by email to admin@wfsahq.org  by 14 November 2014. Successful applicants will be informed by 1st December 2014.

It is the deepest sorrow that our beloved teacher former president of Bangladesh Society Anaesthesiologists  & SAARC Association of Anaesthesiologists Prof SN Samad Chowdhury breathed his last at 9.12pm on 18 may 2014 (Innalillahe wa inna ilaihe rajiun). He is elected member, Board of Director, Asain-Australian Regional Section (AARS) of World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) 1990-1994 & elected member, board of Directors, AOSRA (1989-1993 & 1993-1997). Founder member Asain & Oceanic Society of Regional Anaesthesia ( AOSRA).

We are expressing our heartfelt sorrow of his demise.

The executive committee of BSA praying for his eternal peace and express gratitude to his bereaved  family.
